Michelle Johnson

   Journalism and copywriting

I am an NCTJ qualified journalist with a background in features writing and sub-editing. I am a confident all-rounder with a passion for popular culture and profile writing, and have written for national titles including The Guardian Online, Drummer, Acoustic and Third Sector. I am currently International & Features Assistant at HELLO! and have previously worked as Features Writer for Mwaah Magazine (Hertfordshire and Essex), and temporary Editor of West Essex Life (Archant).

My sub-editing work has included magazine editing and b2b material, and I was commissioned by the University of Hertfordshire Press to edit the biography of British Romani Maggie Smith-Bendell, Our Forgotten Years, in 2008.

I have also provided copywriting and proofreading services for PR and publishing companies, including Ripley's Publishing, Sharron Ashurst PR, Media Minders and MG Management. For these companies I have produced website copy, press releases, blogs, research documents, fact checking and more.

“Michelle [Johnson] worked closely with our author to prepare her manuscript for publication. She followed a brief to make the work ready for publication whilst preserving the spirit of the author’s prose. In carrying out this task, Michelle worked with the utmost respect for the author’s words while at the same time bringing out qualities in them that could easily have been lost. She was an excellent editor and I would wholeheartedly recommend her for other editing work.”
